Stretching new strings with trem

I’ve started to stretch newly installed strings by bending up with the trem bar, rather than stretching at virtually every fret. Seems to get the job done at a fraction of the time (and is easier on my digits!). Has anyone else tried this?

I make it a habit to tun up, stretch the string by grabbing it an pulling while holding down around the 5th fret, give it a couple of yanks and then retune. Stays in tune for weeks!

I've never found a tried-and-true method, nor have any no two sets of the same strings seemed consistent in the amount of stretching required before "settling" in. I just lather, rinse, and repeat until the strings seem to hold their tuning. And then you sometimes find that the D (or other random string in the set) won't intonate due to a defect. The older I get, the more I consider selling every guitar without a double-locking system.
