Tangless Fret System
Anyone have information on the Fly's tangless fret system? Who was the fret wire manufacturer? What is the depth of the shallow positioning channels? The type of glue/epoxy that was used? Anyone have pictures of a fretboard with missing frets?

Re: Tangless Fret System
I see from the Anatomy section that the manufacturer was the Radcliffe Wire Company, and that SS cotter pin wire was used during product development. Very useful information, and greatly appreciated. Thank you admins.

@kentforbes
the stainless fretwire is the same as heli-coils are made of. The depth of the channel in the fret board is just the depth of sandblasting. I made a mask (stencil type out of thin sheet metal used to just blast where the frets are placed. Fretboard is made of carbon fiber cloth and fiberglass (E or S cloth) don't remember which
It's myh underst anding that USMusak sourced other fretwire and from all reports it's a lot softer so it wears. Ours was rockwell 56 so much harder. I'm sure softer fretwire is a lot easier to use !!

Re: Tangless Fret System
I'll give this a try using a 2mm forged carbon skin with .100 wide channels molded .001 deep and 304 alloy half-round wire

I look forward to reading anything you're willing to share concerning your experimentation and findings.kentforbes wrote: Mon Mar 10, 2025 6:30 pm I'll give this a try using a 2mm forged carbon skin with .100 wide channels molded .001 deep and 304 alloy half-round wire![]()
