Replacement pickup wiring
Re: Replacement pickup wiring
I was in talks with someone about buying a guitar and it did not pan out, so I decided to jump in. I ordered a set of pickups from Pete. I expect them in about 3 weeks. I think I'll dump them in My Deluxe and see what happens. Pretty excited to hear that P90 sound coming out of my guitar!
Re: Replacement pickup wiring
Very cool, @Patzag! Congrats! This week I’ve been thinking about the same!! @Xrocker is a bad influence
Re: Replacement pickup wiring
Thanks VJ. I'll let you know the results.
I am VERY picky on the sound of Single Coils and honestly, although I love the sound of a good Strat, I never was able to coax a good tone under my fingers. I'm hoping the P90 will cure this.
I'll report back.

Re: Replacement pickup wiring
So ... I ordered a pair of P90s for my '94 Deluxe.
Well, I'll be ...
Sounds very sweet.
I wanted to get another guitar just to mess with that, but having my classic for the bucker sound, this Deluxe with P90s hits the single coil sound in a very sweet way.
Thanks to XRocker for the advice (I'm an admin and I don't know how to tag someone!!!???).
Anyhow. Sweet.

Re: Replacement pickup wiring
@Patzag. So glad you are digging them! Definitely the best think I ever did for my Fly.
Re: Replacement pickup wiring
I finally got to program presets for this guitar.
The HB presets did nothing for it. But man, properly set up with the right amp and cab, this really sings.
Definitely a keeper.

Re: Replacement pickup wiring
If someone wants to experiment with a different kind of humbucker - I ordered first a P90 Neck and HB Bridge from Pete at Vintage Vibe. Sounded real nice, but I did not like the combo. I bought a second P90 for the bridge and was much happier.
So I have a spare Vintage Vibe Humbucker. As I said, sweet sounding. Just not used or needed here.
Anyone wants it? They can have it $110.00 plus shipping.

Re: Replacement pickup wiring
Dialing in your Fly Classic with those Vintage Vibe pickups. The high-gain squeal might be from an unpotted pickup - consider having it wax potted to reduce microphonics. For more fullness in the middle position, try adjusting pickup height or maybe swap the coil tap wiring. Cool project!
