Spring for 8 gauge

Post by KenanJ »

Hey guys,

At my disposal I only have a 9 rated spring on my deluxe fly, however, i wanted to experiment to play some 8s or 8.5s, I was wondering if any of you have already tried this and still maintained the full capability of the floating bridge.

Thanks in advance :)

@KenanJ, when I went through a phase of stringing all my guitars with 8s because Allan Holdsworth did, my Fly Mojo's 9 spring balanced just fine. Of course, not all springs were created equal - So you won't know if your 9 spring is too stiff for a lighter gauge set until you try.

Thanks Mark. I’ll take some 8.5 xl I have laying around and try. Still thanks for you valuable input once again !
