Just a quick post to gather your opinions on the Mojo model, how it differs from other model especially the prerefined ones!

Thanks in advance for your input :)

I had one. It's a nice guitar. Quite a bit heavier than the pre-refined. I reverted to a classic, which was more my bag.

Hey @KenanJ—I’ll copy something I wrote in another thread:
vjmanzo wrote: Wed Apr 14, 2021 9:38 am I mostly use my Mojo when I need to record something clean, and I use the neck pickup; I really think the SD Jazz neck pickup is something special.
As Pat noted, it’s heavier than a Deluxe. I now gig with my Deluxe, but I played out regularly with my Mojo for many years—it’s a great guitar. The JB pickup in the bridge seems more boosted in the high-end than the Gen 1 bridge pickup—others have described this quality as “harsher” depending on your strings, playing style, and how you dial it in.

Other things to note are that all Mojos are “refined”, so you will have those refinements to work with it.

I understand @vjmanzo you’re saying it works in sync with a deluxe in your arsenal

Yes, it’s a different flavor when I need it; the SD pickups are voiced differently from the DiMarzios. I/You can dial in a similar sound to a Fly Mojo with a Fly Classic or a Fly Deluxe and maybe a pickup height adjustment, but as a direct comparison with all of the other components in the signal chain the same, there is a noticeable difference in timbre between my Mojo and my Deluxe. With different strings, this difference can be accentuated further.

I'm a fan of the Mojo!
It's the most resonant electric guitar I've ever had, and it just feels amazing when playing, whether it's sitting or standing.
I can't speak for the pickups because mine has been messed with and doesn't have the original pickups, but everything else is still working, though the saddles and the nut needed replacing.

Keep in mind when people talk about weight differences on Flys it's not like the difference between a Start and a Les Paul where one weights 7lbs and the other 10lbs, in my experience Flys are roughly in the same ballpark as far as weight goes, and they're all lighter than pretty much anything else out there.

The 2008 ones are rumored to have problematic glue on the frets.

Later Mojos are said to have thicker necks, but in my experience they aren't as thick as the NFV8 NiteFly.

That is well said! 🙂

Thanks @Fox for your take :)

Indeed the mojo on your profile picture looks killer.

Having had in hand a pre refined supreme and deluxe I could feel the deluxe being lighter. I also had in hand a classic pre refined with mahogany body I feels roughly the same weight as the deluxe. Only the supreme were slightly heavier !

I have a mojo and a classic. I prefer the mojo. I like the pickups on the mojo better and I appreciate that they can be split; I use this frequently. The piezo sounds better on the mojo, whether because of refinements in the fishman, different saddles or different wood I’m not sure. I like the smart jack.

I do like the tremolo on the pre-refined models better. It has a better feel and I’ve broken several of the bushings on the mojo. The switches on the mojo were junk, but they’ve long since been replaced. The mojo is heavier, but still plenty light enough.

My two cents.

Trudat. I really liked this simple option on the Mojo.

I only have one Fly -- a Mojo -- and so cannot make comparisons. But speaking only of this guitar, there's a lot I love and noting, really, to gripe about. First off, a one-piece body of great looking mahogany is now a rare pleasure, and the thing is beautiful and handles wonderfully. Having played lots of SD JB and Jazz pickups, that's familiar to me and I like the way they perform in the unusual fly setting and don't find any tonal limitations. Though it falls into the "refined" category, the repositioning of the spring tensioning wheel and the trem lock to the back of the guitar is fine with me, as I never have to adjust my setup while playing and I like not looking at the wheel in the middle of the front of the guitar. Honestly, like most Fly models, the Mojo is a terrific design and assuming the owner can read and uses the manual at first, it's pretty bulletproof, and really simple to adjust. Mine's going on 20 years old and might as well be new.

I tried several back in the day. While I did like what I heard, my gripe would be finding a reliable ones . While some love replacing and gutting parts, I simply do not have the space (and often time and experience to do so myself).

The Mojos made in the original Parker factory seem to be the more reliable ones. Unfortunately, numbers are limited.

N.b. The neck profiles of the flame Mojos I tried were rounder. Think of a 50s Gibson type.

All in all, fiddling and restoring my 98 Classic has been much more cost efficient and rewarding.

One more thing…I’ve never heard it said by anyone but I think it’s true.

I’ve always heard complaints about playing a Fly while sitting down. I got the Mojo and I really didn’t get it. It’s quite comfortable to play. I got the Classic and boy, I get it with that one. The horn digs into me in a way that the mojo just doesn’t. I think the lines are just more rounded on it. Possibly that’s why it weighs more; but if we’re talking 5 lbs vs 6 lbs I’ll gladly take the extra weight
