Do they not stay attached to the pot shaft, or do they merely not have the depth to push down as far as the other knobs?

Do they not stay attached to the pot shaft, or do they merely not have the depth to push down as far as the other knobs?
They stay on the shaft but it lacks depth like shown in the picture

Thanks. In that case, are there enough threads for the potentiometer nut available to shim the cavity side of the pot shaft with an additional locking washer, to decrease the height of the pot shaft?

I will check Saturday when I receive 10 strings to try out on my 97 supreme that gives me a hard time getting well setup …

Those washers (commonly referred to as "locking pot washers" or "star lock washers") generally come in 3/8" (9.525mm) internal diameter. I don't recall if Ken used them in his era of Fly production (can anyone confirm?). In any case, using them to shim the pot shaft height shorter will only work if you have extra, available threads visible past the nut the knob is covering (I'm afraid I don't have a stock '90s Fly to check for myself).

These are all the washers on the prerefine but no star washers except on the input jack.
