Re: Crazy High Prices on Parker Flys Lately
That’s some impressive rust, alright. The most I can do is to just try to enjoy the humor provided by these sellers who never saw the guitar as worth maintaining or repairing (over the course of decades, in some cases) suddenly in a hurry to sell their busted Flys the moment they think it’s now “worth something.”
I wonder if the $85 part they let rust into oblivion was an “ALL ORIGINAL” selling point.

This is more of what I’m talking about: Here’s a seller who, bless him, saw the group of $1200 NiteFly listings and decided his just had to be worth double that. And if it’s still there in a month - after the more realistically priced NiteFlys have sold - someone’s going to see it and go “WOAH! NITEFLY VALUES ARE THROUGH THE ROOF, NOW...MY P36 MUST BE WORTH AT LEAST A GRAND.”

Re: Crazy High Prices on Parker Flys Lately
Special congrats to the used Fly case for rising in asking price to about half of what a used NiteFly sold for just two years ago!
Re: Crazy High Prices on Parker Flys Lately
I could make a mold of the Fly's face with foam fill & a piece of plastic sheeting & convert a similar case into a $300-$400 case
Need to have a Parker Guitars stencil made for these Gig Bags & Cases
There are these stickers on Reverb https://reverb.com/item/51954351-parker ... d-rare-l-k
Will defiantly wait on a case at those prices...

I track a lot of non-guitar collectibles markets and none of this behavior surprises me. I do think the Fed handing out essentially free money for a decade fueled a ton of this, but even with rate hikes and asset prices coming back to reality, my feeling is that we've attained a new level of online flip-scammer that's not going away anytime soon. I don't know if you all follow retro video games, but the thing Joe Bonamassa was saying (joking I think) about leaking his collection out slowly to manipulate prices is exactly what's been accused by a game grading company and auction houses.

Have you guys seen what's happening with Rolex watches? It's nearly impossible to get one from an authorized dealer at retail price and has been for quite a long time. Almost all of the new inventory surfaces on the gray market at 2x to 3x retail, and :spoiler: many of those sellers are people I wouldn't buy a stick of gum from. The sneaker trade is even dirtier and has been going on for even longer. So while the guitar market is certainly way worse than it used to be, it's nowhere near the worst I've personally seen or dealt with. At least not yet anyway.

I think the UK (where that listing is) has its own speculator market. Note that they or a previous owner couldn't resist selling the spare spring or other accessories (to the extent that the manual being included is a selling point). It may be worth messaging them and asking if shipping it without the spare pack of strings would take two or three thousand off the price.

Someone has a chance to score a ‘98 Inca Silver Deluxe for around two grand, assuming the bidding doesn’t get out of control in the last hour:

I’m telling myself that I already plan to refinish my black ‘98 silver as part of a more ambitious project.
Update: Made it all the way up to $2,752, after topping out at $1900 prior to the final hour.

It seems the seller of this ‘09 Mojo Flame in Blue Burst with large chip fills on the neck and body is eager to offload it for around $2k. Update: Seller raised price back to $2,500, then down to $2,400 following lack of bites. By July 20th, it had made its way back to $2k with shipping, then seemingly sold.

This gold spray-painted NiteFly can currently be had for under a grand (seller wishes to haggle). Other NiteFlys listed as being in "better" condition on Reverb seem to be sitting and gradually being marked back down to the $1k to 1.2k range. Update: Sold on July 20th for undisclosed offer (sub-$1k).
Being as the Reverb seller account of the "world's biggest Parker collector" has been either suspended or disabled since June, I've been curious to see if the decreased speculator market attention on Reverb will result in asking prices drifting downward (the same old FB group members who still insist that $7,000 is a “fair” price for others’ depreciated guitars are conspicuously absent with their own marketplace listings, as of late).
7/14/22 update: Here’s a listing where the seller priced a ‘98 Classic with myriad electronics issues (apparently up to the buyer to diagnose and sort out) according to the optimism of other listings, then discounted $750 following a lack of attention. I’ll be checking in on this one to see how the current market feels about fixer-upper Flys.
Here's one supposedly in better condition, suddenly dropped $1,424 after sitting for twenty days to an asking price of $2,075 + tax. Includes bar and spare spring. Update: Sold very soon after being linked here.

Are there any known instances of him outright scamming or defrauding anyone? I have to think guitar prices will pull back slightly. Most of the collectibles markets I track seem to be down 10% to 20%.mmmguitar wrote: ↑Wed Jul 13, 2022 7:02 pmBeing as the Reverb seller account of the "world's biggest Parker collector" has been either suspended or disabled since June, I've been curious to see if the decreased speculator market attention on Reverb will result in asking prices drifting downward (the same old FB group members who still insist that $7,000 is a “fair” price for others’ depreciated guitars are conspicuously absent with their own marketplace listings, as of late).

Not that I’m aware of. There was a separate incident preceding the Reverb seller account being disabled that I’d prefer to elaborate upon via PM, if you have further questions.

Ahh that is very interesting. I feel like that’s a fair deal for a Fly in that condition; hard to know if that’s just me and the Fly prices I’m used to seeing, but, if it were me, I would be content as the buyer or seller at around that price.mmmguitar wrote: ↑Wed Jul 13, 2022 7:02 pm Here's one supposedly in better condition, suddenly dropped $1,424 after sitting for twenty days to an asking price of $2,075 + tax. Here’s a beater NiteFly in need of piezo work where the seller is trying to gouge on shipping. if I was to forget about preferring 24 frets and invest in a NiteFly, it would be after haggling this one down to be no more than a grand after all’s said and done (Though I happen to have all the necessary replacement parts on-hand after putting a Graphtech Hexpander kit in a Fly, negotiations should start and end with addressing the cost of repairs).

Re: “What’s This Worth?” Thread
$1,600 price drop ($2800 to $1200) for a NiteFly Mojo Flame the owner initially listed as a Fly, which led this competing listing to lower its price from $2k to $1400, then to $1300 before the competing listing sold after undercutting it. Update: Listing price was then raised to $1600 - Ostensibly done once the seller realized they no longer had a competitor. This practice has become typical in the Parker resale market. Being as the guitar’s also listed in the two main FB groups, it may be worth haggling there. 7/25 Update: Back down to $1300.
Based on the number of sitting listings I’ve seen this month, I’m expecting to see fewer people willing to list their Flys on Reverb in August; for fear of finding out what they’re actually worth. Though I’d love to be proven wrong and see some fair prices from the start.

Re: “What’s This Worth?” Thread
Just posting a PSA for anyone considering buying the ‘99 maple Classic (the 90s-era designation for Supremes with less-than-spectacular-looking grain) currently listed on eBay: It’s being sold by the self-described “biggest Parker collector in the world”, following his Reverb account being disabled in June.
This is not intended to in any way deter interested parties nor make any claims as to the quality of transaction one would experience. I just don’t want anyone previously in disagreement with the seller’s perceived Reverb practices to find themselves doing business with them on eBay under any misgivings or false pretenses resulting from their taking the different seller account name to mean they are dealing with a different individual. Anyone may PM me for further elaboration.
Update: as of August 22nd, the eBay listing was removed due to “error in listing” (he sold it outside of eBay). The asking price had gradually dropped to the $2,700 area.

Re: “What’s This Worth?” Thread
Thanks, Marc; I saw that one pop up today and had similar mixed feelings: one the one hand, it’s true that it’s a rarer Fly, but certain sellers have an asterisk for me when I see them, and, even with the consistency of most Flys, it’s not always easy to know what you’re buying when you only have the seller’s description to go by!
Re: “What’s This Worth?” Thread
This red prerefined Classic which, at $2,500, is currently the best-priced Fly listed on Reverb at the moment, is being sold by Sam Ash; which means one can likely haggle a lower price by calling the store directly.
Update: Sold shortly thereafter.
