Springs
Re: Springs
+1 to those ZPS and Zero Resistance trem thoughts, as well. If only those had been sold separately (in an “aftermarket hardware” capacity, anyway), modern players would think twice about hardened steel knife edges. I’m still bummed about Strandberg switching their trems from bearings to knife edges in 2018, and you have to buy a $3k+ guitar to go with the Vigier Floyd that pivots on bearings.

The Vigier are imports only as well. Very pricey as you point out.mmmguitar wrote: ↑Sat Mar 12, 2022 2:10 pm +1 to those ZPS and Zero Resistance trem thoughts, as well. I don’t know what the patent issue that had Ibanez pull the ZR out of guitars, but hopefully they will be able to bring it back down the line.

Re: Springs
Let’s hope so. But the example Gibson’s been setting with sitting on the TransTrem since the 90s is a bit discouraging.

Re: Springs
Could you imagine a Fly with a Transtrem (the original one)? Now that would be far-fetched…but interesting for sure (would most likely need to be a Nitefly).
Heard the original Transtrems are much harder to maintain than pretty much any other system (long-term, that is).
It’s too bad the vibrato systems have dipped in popularity so much. It was to be expected, but many companies went overboard. Some should still keep working on refining the design of the double-locking trem. I thought a ball-bearing system was a great start.
The original Floyd Rose may offer stability, but boy does that design show its age or what. Not very fun to fiddle with screwdrivers and Allen keys each time you need to make a change. No wonder why so many players (especially newer ones) avoid it like the plague.

I too want that chrome fly guitar
Funny how the Floyd bridges seem to boast that they are a relic of the past, using the same design as 40 years ago.

Per the seller page: “I used to run the Parker production facility and am trying to offer Parker enthusiasts and owners accurate reproductions of, or newly manufactured parts from original suppliers.”DavidE wrote: ↑Sat May 21, 2022 6:28 am Um, what are these?

Elaboration in the FB group (click for full size):
Being as I’m not hurting for “untempered” springs, $85+tax reaffirms that I’ll wait and check out VJ’s re-engineered product. I get that the price is intended to both recoup and discourage certain individuals from fantasizing about flipping a bulk order, but I’ll just continue trading gauges straight across if I end up needing more in the meantime.

Re: Springs
Thanks for the context, Marc. The “2022” written on them and the seller’s lack of any sales feedback looked suspect to me.
Re: Springs
I'm just naturally skeptical about these things. I thought there was a seller a year or two ago already claiming to have the 'last stock of springs' from Parker? Now someone shows up with the most popular sizes? And the description clearly says these are untempered (ie, not OEM), so they could snap.
I'm not a material engineer but I would assume tempering the steel would be required to prevent deforming over time. And it was probably a deliberate, controlled process to achieve the desired properties.

Re: Springs
FWIW I think @Terry Atkins is saying that he had some stock of springs that were stamped but not tempered for all these years, but that he now used his former connection with Parker to ask Excel Spring Co to temper what he had in stock.
Re: Springs
You're misreading it. Billy said the springs were made some years ago but were never tempered. He got the company to temper them and bought all they had to sell to Parker owners. Billy used to run the Parker division after the sale at some point, so he knew the people at the company and they knew him.mark74 wrote: ↑Sun May 22, 2022 5:09 am I'm just naturally skeptical about these things. Re: Springs
I'm a little confused. I know Terry AND Billy and they're not the same person. But Bill's last name is not Atkins. Terry's is. So who is Billy Atkins?
