Truss Rod tool for a Fly Mojo from 2009? USA made

Post by dylanbb »

I am trying to figure out which wrench fits my truss rod.
I think it is this one but not sure?
Sorry, I am sure the answer is in front of me but I am confused by the "torx" wrench and which model it applies to. Thanks!

Hi @dylanbb—and welcome! It should be the T-27 linked in the original post. Do you have that tool?

Thanks!
Yes, I have a hex tool which came with the guitar but it isn't the T-27 you mentioned. I feel that the tool I have doesn't quite fit properly and I can't see inside enough to know which tool it should be. The guitar is actually a Fly Mojo Midi – 2009 USA made. I can only assume that the one which came with the guitar is correct. I am flummoxed.

Did your Mojo MIDI come with other tools (e.g., hex keys for the saddle screws and tremolo arm collar), and did you purchase it used? The flashlight on most modern smart phones should be enough to see down the adjustment hole on the side of the headstock.

Though the Fly truss design had changed by 2009 (e.g., using a typical, two way rod instead of lightweight piano wire), Ken initially went with a torx nut for truss adjustment because the heads are much less likely to strip than hex/allen key heads, and a consequence of the construction of the Fly neck is that no part of the truss can be repaired without rebuilding the neck - So It was a "better safe than sorry" decision to ensure a longer lifespan for the part. Torx heads/keys have a six point star arrangement:

Still, try and get some light down that hole to see what you're working with - There may be an impaction of debris or something else needing to be addressed.
