Re: Springs
I’ve been mulling over the idea of designing a system that relies on magnets for the spring constant. Would be a combination of repulsion and attraction. Not sure if strong neodymium could safely be used within a guitar, but the idea interests me.
To @Patzag’s point I have seen one spring issue ...

Re: Hex Trem Arm
Just popping in to say that I haven't had any trem arms for quite a while. My apologies for not making this post earlier as I've received a number of PMs over the past year. I'm sure VJ and crew will be doing a great job with them.

Re: Hex Trem Arm
Hadn't logged on in a while. Sold my Deluxe...I just couldn't get along with it. I think I have a couple of trem arms left though. Apologies for anyone who asked about them and didn't get a response. I just changed my notification settings so I get an email if someone sends a PM.

Re: Hex Trem Arm
I used up the rest of my hex stock and got seven bars out of it.

Re: Hex Trem Arm
Glad to hear about the hex bar, and sorry to hear you couldn’t bond with the Deluxe without your preferred string gauges. Would you reconsider keeping the guitar if a spring turned up?
I don't think I would keep it, actually. I generally REALLY like heavily integrated design when it's done well ...

Hex Trem Arm
I bought a '96 Deluxe a while back and it didn't come with a trem arm. After experimenting with machining a new bushing for the round arm and not being really happy with it, I bought 6' of hex stock and made one that worked with the original bushing. I have enough rod stock to make 6 more arms and ...

Re: Springs
Has anyone considered a potential retrofit of the Fly flat spring design to use coil springs instead? Not sure if there's sufficient room in the cavity to pull that off (and I do realize that a flat spring is the opposite operation of a coil). This definitely would not be an option for the ...

Re: Ken Parker's Archtoppery
I just finished watching the side bending videos. So good! What a great idea to bond the linen to improve bending performance. It's clear that Ken really takes time to think about the challenges presented by the materials and shortcomings of the traditional process to come up with creative ways of ...

I stumbled across this today on YouTube and haven't seen it posted here. Forgive me if it's already been shared and I just missed it.

Thank you for the thoughtful detailed response and for the link to the 12 string project. Nice work on that one, and Ken's response tops it off!
PM coming shortly.

Re: Springs
has anyone worked out the spring rates for these springs? If so, are you willing to share your data? If not, I'll make a jig and will measure my 9g spring. With an extremely rudimentary setup, (deleted), which is about the max compression with my bar at full dive.

Re: Vibrato bar adapter
Thanks!
After installing it, it didn't look right at the length I left it so I brought it down to the same dimensions as stock. I don't have a 1/8" roundover bit and don't grind my own here in the shop so I profiled the corner by hand. I do think I'm going to borrow the rotary broach from my buddy ...

Re: Vibrato bar adapter
Found my 3/16" chucking reamer. Someone put it in my drill bit drawer ;) What kind of monster does that?!
I left the head a little long with a 3/16"r corner figuring I can turn it to the correct length later on if needed. The extra length is in case I want to mill a hex on the OD rather than broach ...

Vibrato bar adapter
I was hoping that I could make this a quick project, but didn't take stock of my tooling before I started and didn't realize that I can't locate my 3/16 chucking reamer. So here's an incomplete project for now.

Re: Vibrato Arm Bushing (refined)
What's the OD of the refined vibrato arm? I have one coming and I'd like to machine a bushing for it before it arrives
Thank you!

Re: Springs
I just found this forum and wish I found it much sooner. I bought a pre-refined Fly back in August and have mostly kept it in its case for lack of a hanger, tremolo bar and proper spring for my favorite string gauge. I gave up on my spring search after popping for a way overpriced 11g spring on eBay ...
